A time-space cartogram of Seattle: distance on the map reflects travel time, not geography. Driving, traffic, and transit, with a slider morphing between the city's shapes.
The map redraws Seattle so that distance means travel time. Neighborhoods drift toward or away from each other depending on how long the trip takes. There are three versions (driving at the speed limits, driving in traffic, and transit), and a slider morphs the city between its geographic shape and each of them.
I stayed on Capitol Hill for a while and kept guessing trip times wrong. Ballard looks close on a map and took forty-five minutes. Phinney Ridge looks farther and took fifteen. I wanted a map that showed minutes, since minutes are what I was planning around. The longer story is in the blog post.
